Weekends are for Music: Pandora

One of my favorite websites for listening to music is the online radio station Pandora. Pandora’s mission is  “To play music you’ll love – and nothing else.” They do a pretty good job of just that.

Type in the name of one of your favorite artists or songs and Pandora will create a custom station of similar music. You can also refine your stations. Is Pandora playing a song you don’t like? Click on “I don’t like this song.” Really like the song playing? Click “I like this song.” This information narrows the station to exactly what you want.

Pandora has threatened to shut down due to extreme fees charged by the music industry. I thought I better tell you about it while you could still check it out.

Listen: Pandora, Sixpence None The Richer Radio, Coldplay Radio, tom1469’s QuickMix (Thanks, Tom!)

Weekends are for Music: Jack Johnson

My kids love the movie Curious George. I love that it has a great soundtrack by Jack Johnson. After the 10,000 time of listening to the music in the movie, I dug into more of Johnson’s music, and I’m loving it. You can listen to 10 of his albums for free on his website.

Sound: Bluesy acoustic

Listen: Featured Music or Albums

Listen here to songs from the Curious George Soundtrack.

Weekends are for Music: Japeth the Goat Sings the Anderson Alma Mater

This could fit in the “now for something completely different” category.

The writers, producers, and a number of actors from the movie Hoodwinked are graduates of Anderson University and were a few years ahead of me in college. My favorite character from Hoodwinked is Japeth the goat, played by Benjy Gaither, who must sing everything because a witch put a spell on him.

Here is Japeth singing “Be Prepared” from Hoodwinked. Very funny.

Here is Benjy, as Japeth the goat, singing the Anderson Alma Mater.

Watch for the release of Hoodwinked 2:Hood vs Evil.

Weekends are for Music: Braid My Hair

My last music post featured the songwriting talents of college friends Lonnie Fowler and Brent Wilson.

Brent has co-written another recently released single, “Braid My Hair”, performed Randy Owen, former lead singer of supergroup Alabama.

Wondering what the song is about? Here’s a clue: 100 percent of the song’s publishing royalties are being donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Listen: here or here

Watch a video of Brent and co-writer Chris Gray discussing the song here.

Weekends are for Music: I’ll Walk

Lonnie Fowler and Brent Wilson are friends from college. I was in a number of music groups with these guys. We also were in song writing class together.

Lonnie and Brent are the writers of the song “I’ll Walk” that Bucky Covington recorded. The song is currently #33 on the Country Charts, and climbing. Give it a listen.

Listen: I’ll Walk, more from Bucky, more from Lonnie, more from Brent

Request Bucky Covington!

Weekends are for Music: Evangeline

I recently discovered the group Evangeline, and I thought I would pass this gem of a group on to you.

They describe their sound as “21st Century Southern rock (soulful pop, rock and folk with a Southern feel), with influences ranging from Pedro the Lion to Johnny Cash and Counting Crows to Otis Redding.”

Listen: evangelinegroup.com/music/
I recommend you click “Play All”.

Here’s a video from The Work of the People that uses their song “We’re All Right Down Here.”

If Everyone Cared

The video to Nickelback’s “If Everyone Cared” was played in our Worship Gathering this morning. A great song with an even better video. I love the way they overlay stories of people who made a huge difference in the world.
Take a look if you haven’t seen it yet.
